Tracy Chavez - founder of Eye Candy

Tracy Chavez is the founder and owner of Eye Candy SF. With over 15 years of experience in esthetics and skin care, Tracy is as passionate as ever about her craft, and is dedicated to helping her clients look and feel their very best.

She received her professional training and certificate at the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis, MN, and is trained and certified as a paramedical esthetician (pre and post-op skin care and camouflage therapy). Tracy served as West Coast Director of Education for Kiehl’s and as a training instructor for SmashBox and Aveda product lines.

Other makeup artistry experience includes expertise with Lancome, MAC, and Chanel ranges. In addition to her work with the head of operations at the BeneFit Brow Bar in San Francisco and most recently as a lead esthetician and brow artist at the renowned Blink Salon in San Francisco, Tracy has led the way in bringing innovation to salon services as she was part of the founding team that opened one of the very first beauty bars.

Tracy brings this spirit and her artistic flourish to Eye Candy SF. Call for an appointment with one of the best brow sculptors on the West Coast!

Tracy's roots play a big part of who she is as an artist. Growing up in a small farming community with three older brothers shaped her perspective immensely. Not many who saw the tiny, feisty, and grubby tomboy would have thought she would grow up to be one of the Left Coast's preeminent eyebrow sculptors. A life spent close to nature along with over 15 years of experience in makeup, brow design, and skin care formed the foundation of Tracy Chavez’s professional philosophy: “Accent the beauty that comes from within. Be true to yourself and, above all, keep it natural.”

Inside Eye CandyThe desire to create beauty first bit when Tracy was still a teenager, leading to her first job in cosmetics at a department store. After moving to San Francisco to begin college, she took a job at Nordstrom, which led to a whirlwind assigment assisting the industry’s best makeup artists at SmashBox Studios and the photography studio of Dean and Davis Factor -- great-grandsons of Max Factor and creators of the SmashBox cosmetics line. Tracy went on to introduce the SmashBox line to all Nordstrom locations in California.

Next came the first of several professional programs. Tracy moved to Minneapolis to receive training and certification in Esthetics and Cosmetology at the Aveda Institute. While still a student, her outgoing and vivacious personality helped her become a favorite with skin care clients and helped her achieve record product sales. After graduating at the top of her class, she returned to the West coast and earned her esthetician license from the State Board of California. She became an Aveda educator and spent over four years teaching Bay Area estheticians about Aveda products and skin and hair treatments. Tracy then moved east to New York City for a year of training at Kiehl’s headquarters. Now a bona fide jet-setter, she moved back to California to become the West coast Director of Education for Kiehl’s, where she trained both estheticians and counter sales representatives on the full range of products.

In the mid 90s, Tracy’s life changed when her father was diagnosed with cancer. She became a freel¨ance makeup artist and made frequent trips to the Central Valley to help in her father’s care. During this time, Tracy also worked as an artist with top cosmetics lines such as Lancome, MAC, Chanel, and Origins, where she had the privilege of meeting Leonard Lauder of Estee Lauder. One of Tracy’s proudest moments was when Mr. Lauder personally congratulated her on both her aesthetics and business sense.

Tracy at workTracy’s experience caring for her father inspired her to explore a related, but very different branch of cosmetics and skin care: paramedical esthiology. She was trained and became certified in the use of pharmaceutical grade products to help patients with traumatic skin injuries such as burns and post-operative scarring. She joined a plastic surgery practice in San Francisco to help pre- and post-op patients take care of their skin well as cancer patients who wanted expertise in re-vitalizing their personal appearance. She became very well-versed in the use of Obagi, La Roche-Posay, Cellex-C, and other medical grade products. Tracy gained additional certification in 2002.

When BeneFit Cosmetics came looking for someone to start “brow bars” in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tracy answered the call and hit the ground running. She was named head of operations for San Francisco and San Jose locations, responsible for hiring, training, and creating general buzz. Then came a multi-year stay at the esteemed Blink Salon in San Francisco, where she worked with the Bay Area’s most esteemed practioners in brows and makeup. In 2009, Tracy realized her long-held dream of opening a brow and makeup salon of her own. Eye Candy started out on the 15th floor of a historic building in Union Square and was re-launched one year later at a chic retail space inside the historic Warfield Theatre. Tracy strives to make each person's experience at Eye Candy a life-changing and fabulous experience. Let your best self out!

Now less than two years into Eye Candy's existence, Tracy is already earning signficant recognition for her work. In 2010 & 2011, Eye Candy was named the Best Brow Bar in the Bay Area by SF Gate's Bay List. In 2011, SF Station recognized Eye Candy as the Best Brow/Eyelash Bar in their SF's Best Shops feature.
